FA CUP: GREENWOOD ON ROONEY’S LEVEL

Young Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood showed that he’s now at par with the level attained by Wayne Rooney many years ago after his FA Cup heroics against Liverpool at the weekend.Mason Greenwood was one of the scorers for hosts Manchester United as they came from behind to see off Liverpool in a thrilling FA Cup fourth round encounter at the Theatre of Dreams. Mason Greenwood scored a crucial goal as he was responsible for the all-important equaliser off a magnificent pass from Marcus Rashford after Liverpool hit man Mohamed Salah had given the Reds the lead.

Mason Greenwood became the youngest goal scorer against Liverpool since a certain Wayne Rooney with his strike against the Reds at the weekend. Wayne Rooney scored at the age of 19 years and 83 days against Liverpool in 2005 and Mason Greenwood was just some days away from him at the age of 19 years and 115 days. Wayne Rooney recently retired from football and has since been appointed the permanent manager at English Championship outfit Derby County after his impressive form as the interim boss. Wayne Rooney took over with Derby County in the relegation zone and he has been able to lead them out of the relegation zone.

Manchester United fans would be hoping that Mason Greenwood would continue to perform well just like Wayne Rooney did while he was at the club. Wayne Rooney is the leading goalscorer in the history of the club and he’s undoubtedly a club legend. Wayne Rooney scored 253 goals in 559 games as a Manchester United player and he won 17 major trophies including five Premier League titles.

Mason Greenwood had a very good season last term but he has struggled at times this season due to small injury problems. He showed against the Reds that he’s getting back to his form from last season. Marcus Rashford and second half substitute Bruno Fernande were the other goalscorers for Manchester United, while Mohamed Salah scored the two goals for Liverpool.
